Final Project making progress

My plates made it into and out of the bisque whole. I decided to glaze them a satin-matte cone 6 white and I had decals made of pages from my daily planner. The yellow pieces on these plates are the decals from inplainsightart.com, pre-cone 011 firing (the yellow burns out). I did a test fire and so far, so good but I have to wait for the final product. We shall see!

Final Project-

The final assignment is based on self exploration. We are to examine ourselves and focus on a characteristic. After sharing personal experiences with classmates (notes pictured), I chose to depict the anal, type-A segment of myself that takes on too much and lives out of my planner. I am concentrating on the phrase "Having too much on my plate." Step 1- make a plate ( workings depicted in sketches) I made 3 different molds in an attempt to get these plates to work; a 2 part mold proved unnecessary and I was making my one part mold through a complicated (and incorrect) process of casting the negative and positive plaster. Finally I got it to work, and I am on my way...

Project #2- Connectivity- Installed

Here they are, installed. I mounted each mushroom head on a copper wire and drilled a hole in the wood to stand the vertical object. In all, there are a few hundred.

Connectivity project (#2) Completed

Almost time for crits on these little guys. They have made their way onto an old pressure-treated piece of wood. To me, they mimic mushrooms but I was thinking about the idea of 'connect the dots' when I made them . The interest in social implications is still present, as with my original idea, in the profile of the piece, it is loosely based off of a graph that depicts the negative correlation between internet use and social isolation.

Ceramic Sculpture-Project #2

Project #2: Connectivity. Explore a relationship of any sort.

I was inspired by the social implications of dots. It is interesting to me how the simplest of marks can convey such a large variety of emotions. I thought about how the impact of dots changes with their arrangement (seen in a few sketches).

These little thumb prints are made with a tiny press mold and paper clay. The mold was occasionally dusted with g-200 feldspar, silica, frit 3110, and kona feldspar with the hopes of achieving a slightly glossy appearance

So.. On to better things.

Attempt #2 at project 1: Big bellied spoon and shovel accomplice

Sanded with green scrubbie, 400 grit sandpaper

Ceramic Sculpture- Project 1

Attempt for Project 1: Be inspired by an item you see everyday. I have a great long-handled vintage spoon that I adore (see picture). I wanted to explore the relationship between the spoon and the mouth. It is a vehicle for consumption and nourishment but it can also be involved with gluttony or absent in starvation.

My sketches included ideas that I feel depict this relationship; a shovel, large bowl, small bowl, long handle.
