Ceramic Sculpture-Project #2

Project #2: Connectivity. Explore a relationship of any sort.

I was inspired by the social implications of dots. It is interesting to me how the simplest of marks can convey such a large variety of emotions. I thought about how the impact of dots changes with their arrangement (seen in a few sketches).

These little thumb prints are made with a tiny press mold and paper clay. The mold was occasionally dusted with g-200 feldspar, silica, frit 3110, and kona feldspar with the hopes of achieving a slightly glossy appearance

So.. On to better things.

Attempt #2 at project 1: Big bellied spoon and shovel accomplice

Sanded with green scrubbie, 400 grit sandpaper

Ceramic Sculpture- Project 1

Attempt for Project 1: Be inspired by an item you see everyday. I have a great long-handled vintage spoon that I adore (see picture). I wanted to explore the relationship between the spoon and the mouth. It is a vehicle for consumption and nourishment but it can also be involved with gluttony or absent in starvation.

My sketches included ideas that I feel depict this relationship; a shovel, large bowl, small bowl, long handle.

My recreation for a long- handled, non-functional spoon FAILED
